September 21, 26, and 29, 2013: Scottish Diaspora Tapestry Project
(diaspora: the scattering of a people away from an established or ancestral homeland.)
Marquette County Wisconsin Friends of John Muir were invited to participate and now are inviting you to put your own stitches into the panel depicting John Muir's boyhood in Marquette County. Place: Teapot Quilt Cottage, 505 Main St. Montello. Also view the From the Old World to the New: the Dunbar and Marquette County Wisconsin boyhood homes of John Muir photo exhibit (see below) at Vaughn Hall, where tea and currant scones will be served. Bring your own Scottish Heritage stories to tell or add to a guest book that will be sent to Scotland with the Marquette County John Muir tapestry block. We will have a scanner at Teapot Quilt Cottage to scan family photos to add to the book. Enjoy tea and scones at Vaughn Hall while viewing From Dunbar to Scotland exhibit.
September 5- October 19, 2013: "From the Old World to the New" Photo Exhibit
J.P. Vaughn Hall, home of the Montello Historic Preservation Society, 55 W. Montello St., Montello, WI. This exhibit features a photography exchange between Dunbar and East Linton District, East Lothian, Scotland, the place of John Muir's birth and Marquette County, WI, where John Muir grew up.
October 12, 2013: Fall Color Hike
This is a collaboration between the WI Friends of John Muir and the Ice Age Trail. Hike through Fox River National Wildlife Refuge, view beautiful fall colors and the flora and fauna of the area. The refuge is normally closed to the public for hiking. Bring binoculars, water, and hiking boots. Hike will be led by bird expert, Daryl Christensen and botany expert, Laurel Bennett. Meet at John Muir County Park on Hwy F at 10:00 AM.
November 8, 2013: Movie Night
Movie: Last Call at the Oasis, 6:30 pm, UW-Extension 480 Underwood Ave., Montello, WI Developed, financed and produced by Participant Media, the company responsible for An Inconvenient Truth; Food, Inc.; and Waiting For "Superman", Last Call at the Oasis presents a powerful argument for why the global water crisis will be the central issue facing our world this century. The film features activist Erin Brockovich and such distinguished experts as Peter Gleick, Alex Prud'homme, Jay Famiglietti and Robert Glennon.
